Betweenle is a word puzzle about alphabetical order. A secret five-letter word hides somewhere in the dictionary, and you have twelve tries to find it. Every word you type lands above or below the secret word, and the gap between the top and the bottom word shrinks until only one word fits.

How to play

Type any five-letter English word and press Enter.
If the secret word comes later in the alphabet, your word becomes the new top word. If it comes earlier, your word becomes the new bottom word.
Your next guess has to fit between the top and the bottom word, so the range gets smaller with every try.
The orange dot on the left shows where the secret word sits between the two: close to the top, in the middle or near the bottom.
When the top and the bottom word start with the same letters, those letters turn green: the secret word starts with them too.
A try only counts if the word is in the list and fits the range, so a typo never costs you a try.

Daily and Unlimited

The Daily game gives everyone the same word. It changes at midnight and keeps your streak. Unlimited gives you a new random word whenever you like, without touching your streak. The Share button copies your result as a row of arrows, so nobody's word is spoiled.

Tips

Open with a word that starts with M or N to cut the dictionary roughly in half. Then follow the dot: if it sits near the top, pick a word just below the top word instead of one halfway down. Once the first two or three letters are green, think of everyday words with that start. The secret words are common words, never obscure ones, although any real five-letter word counts as a guess.
