Redactle is a guessing game with a whole encyclopedia article. Every word of a Wikipedia article is hidden behind a black bar, except small words like the, of and is. Guess words one at a time: each guess opens every place where that word appears. You solve the puzzle when all the words of the title are revealed.

How to play

Type a word and press Enter or Guess. The list of your guesses shows how many times each word appears; tap a guess to jump through its places in the article.
Singular and plural count as one: CITY also opens CITIES.
Tap a black bar to see how many letters the word has.
Headings and the shape of the sentences are your best clues. Numbers can be guessed too, so try a year.
Hint shows the topic of the article: first the broad field, then the exact area. Give up shows the whole article.

Daily, Unlimited and Hard

The daily article is the same for everyone and comes from a list of about 960 of the most important articles on Wikipedia, so it is a subject most people have heard of. In Unlimited you can play as many articles as you like, from that list or, on Hard, from about 9,000 more specialised articles.

Strategy

Start with broad words that appear in many articles: born, city, war, country, century, species, water. The headings tell you what kind of article it is: Early life and Career point to a person, Geography and Economy to a place. Once you have an idea for the title, type its words one by one.

The text is loaded from Wikipedia while you play and is shared under the CC BY-SA 4.0 licence; the title and a link to the article appear when the game ends. We only hide words and leave out the reference sections.
